Citymeals-on-Wheels

Charity Overview

ICAP employees volunteered for a morning at Citymeals-on-Wheels, delivering hot and nutritious meals to the city’s homebound elderly.

Project Summary

Citymeals-on-Wheels fund the preparation and delivery of meals to elderly, homebound New Yorkers, ensuring that no vulnerable senior citizen will ever go a day without food or companionship. They provide 1.8 million free meals each year to more than 16,500 people.

In a city of over 8 million people, every meal is a story of a long life lived. The meals are delivered daily, being carried up long flights of stairs and hand-delivered in the rain by young and old, male and female. Both the charity and the meal recipients are completely dependent on the volunteers help, kindness and compassion.

To be able to see the real world benefits of the funds ICAP passes along via Charity Day put an entirely new and personal perspective on the event for me.
