mothers2mothers (m2m) is an Africa-based, non-profit organisation that unlocks the potential of mothers to break the cycle of paediatric AIDS and create healthy families and communities.
m2m trains, employs and empowers local mothers living with HIV as Mentor Mothers; frontline healthcare workers based in understaffed health clinics and within communities. Their intimate understanding of the social and cultural challenges facing both HIV-positive and HIV-negative women makes them uniquely positioned in providing education and support about HIV and AIDS. In 15 years of working in South Africa, mother2mothers has achieved virtual elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV among the women the charity’s Mentor Mothers serve.
