Bear Cottage is an initiative of the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. It is the only children’s hospice in New South Wales dedicated to providing support, respite and end-of-life care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. Bear Cottage has state of the art facilities and deliver its care in a way that allows the children and families to feel at home.
Caring for a child with a life-limiting condition changes a family’s life forever. Exhausting, rewarding, sometimes positive and often painful Bear Cottage is a place where respite is possible for families, who often have been caring for their child around the clock for many years. The charity’s vision is to create an environment which is as far removed from a hospital atmosphere as possible, with the aim of creating an element of normality for its residents and their families.
Bear Cottage was set up to provide excellence in paediatric palliative care 24 hours a day, and its affiliation to The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network means the charity has access to some of the best medical resources in the world. Every day Bear Cottage offer the best care possible to these special children.
