Borne aims to prevent death and disability in childbirth and create lifelong health for mothers and babies. Premature birth kills one baby every 30 seconds. 1.1 million babies worldwide die after being born too soon – which is more than AIDS or malaria. Borne was founded to prevent prematurity, minimise its consequences and understand the biological mechanisms involved.
Borne has two major ambitions:
- To better understand the causes of premature birth and in doing so find ways to prevent it.
- To identify medical interventions during pregnancy and the newborn period that will improve lifelong health for both the mother and baby.
