Charity Overview

Mother of Peace is a foster home for orphaned and vulnerable children based in Northriding, Johannesburg which is run by a group of volunteers. There are 3.85 million orphans in South Africa and Mother of Peace strongly believe that each child has the right to be safe, to belong, to be heard and to grow up in a happy family environment.

The children fostered at Mother of Peace come from extremely traumatic backgrounds with the majority having experienced severe physical, sexual or psychological abuse. On arrival children receive full medical assessments, counselling and therapy according to their needs. They are provided with an opportunity to attend the local schools and live within a structured family environment where they are cared for, nurtured and loved. In this setting, Mother of Peace aim to ensure that each child develops both socially and mentally. Six children are placed into each house where they are nurtured, empowered and supported into adulthood.
