There is a new approach in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer that has developed from a greater understanding of the gene (molecular) changes occurring in cancer cells. Researchers and scientists can test for particular changes in these cells that are sensitive to new generations of smart drugs, which have fewer side effects and are more effective than standard chemotherapy. Currently this only works for a small number of cancers and is only identified through genetic (molecular) testing. Molecular Cancer Research are undertaking pioneering research to identify more sensitive genetic changes to improve the outcome for people with cancer.
