Self Help Africa

Charity Overview

Self Help Africa (SHA) is a leading international development charity with expertise in small-scale farming and growing family farm businesses. 70% of African adults work in small businesses – primarily small farms. Around 250 million people suffer from hunger and malnutrition. In order to address this poverty cycle, these businesses must be made more profitable. The work of SHA helps farmers increase production, spread risk through diversification, offers access to banking services and new markets.

SHA believes that a profitable small business sector in Africa is key to unlocking millions from endemic poverty. It rewards work, not welfare and encourages investment, not charity.
