Charity Overview

Empilweni was established in 1994 at the request of the Khayelitsha community and has been providing psychological counselling to troubled children and their parents for the past 24 years.

The organisation employs and trains social workers and social auxiliary workers to provide assessments and counselling for children and youth to help them cope with anxiety, depression, grief, suicidal tendencies, behavioural disorders and learning difficulties.

The counselling is provided in isiXhosa, which makes Empilweni a special place because it is the only facility that offers counselling in the mother tongue spoken in Khayelitsha and Mfuleni.
